The ever-changing skyline of Liverpool’s University buildings.

Liverpool John Moores University have announced a decision to close their historic 100 year old I M Marsh campus in Aigburth, in a plan to bring the University, in it’s entirety into the city centre. The faculty of Education, Community and Leisure currently based at I M Marsh will receive new provisions including a 25m swimming pool and other advanced sports and laboratory facilities. Although the relocation will be gradual, made over the next few years, students that are currently living on the I M Marsh site will be the last, with student accommodation here terminated from July.

Planning has also been granted for the development of a brand new student accommodation block in the Liverpool city centre Ropewalks district. The block will provide 262 student bedrooms with communal facilities and will be designed by ‘Formroom Architects’ to be in keeping with the Georgian architectural style of the area. However, in a spooky twist to the plans, the building will sit on the former site of St. Michael’s Church and graveyard, destroyed during the 1941 May blitz. Developers say that excavation of remains may be required from the old graveyard site to allow for an underground car park, but give their assurance that the work will be carried out with the greatest care, and within the strict laws that surround this type of development.
